STATEMENT: Asian Texans for Justice welcomes new executive and board leadership in 2025

Effective January 1st, Asian Texans for Justice welcomes Nabila Mansoor, a veteran Texas leader, as the new co-executive director and Sarah Xiyi Chen as the new board president.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Asian Texans for Justice (ATJ) is excited to welcome Nabila Mansoor as a co-executive director of the statewide nonprofit organization. Nabila has decades of experience in Texas politics and policy, including executive roles at Rise AAPI, Emgage Texas, Asian American Democrats of Texas (AADT), and as the current president of the Texas Multicultural Advocacy Coalition (TMAC). Nabila has a Bachelor of Science from The University of Toronto and a law degree from The University of Houston Law Center.
“I am thrilled to be joining the ATJ team at this important juncture.This work is more important than ever and we are well positioned to ensure Asian Texans are at the forefront of working toward a more equitable Texas where all people feel bold in their belonging,” says Mansoor of her new role.
Mansoor joins Lily Trieu as co-executive directors, where they will continue their commitment to connecting the more than 2 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) with civic action to build personal and political power across Texas.
In addition to the leadership transition, Sarah Xiyi Chen will be stepping into the board president role replacing Ashley Cheng, who has served as the founding board president since 2021. Sarah Chen has served as an ATJ board secretary since 2022 and brings a wealth of experience including her legal work as the Senior Supervising Attorney for Voting Rights at the Texas Civil Rights Project and prior roles at the Asian Law Caucus and Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles.
“Asian Texans for Justice was built on the belief that our communities are stronger when we come together to create meaningful change,” said Ashley Cheng, ATJ’s founding board president. “I’m grateful for the collective leadership of Lily, Nabila, and Sarah – who I know will continue to grow ATJ as a transformative force, amplifying the voices of Asian Texans and empowering our communities to build a better Texas for all of us."
On her new role, Sarah Xiyi Chen shares that “what Asian Texans for Justice has accomplished since 2021 under Lily and Ashley’s leadership and vision has been extraordinary in scope, urgency, and impact. I am so excited to welcome Nabila to the team as ATJ continues to build civic engagement, youth leadership, and advocacy programs in this critical time.”
